Research
I became interested in lower extremity mechanics after working in footwear research projects at the University of Jyväskylä. My PhD thesis concentrated on lower limb biomechanics with specific emphasis on joint loading and subject specificity of locomotion.
Since 2016 my research has been evolved towards clinical biomechanics and rehabilitation related topics after starting my work as a clinical biomechanicst at the motion laboratory in the Helsinki University Hospital. In 2017, I was awarded an Academy of Finland Clinical Research Fellow which provided me the opportunity to spend time at Harvard Biodesing laboratory as a post-doctoral research fellow.
In 2022, I received a five year Academy Research Fellow project for studying biomechanical locomotor constraints, gait rehabilitation and wearable robotics. With this and other research funding, the Helsinki Gait & Motion Group was founded in 2023 to produce new research evidence on common clinical practices, primarily in the field of locomotor disorders and gait rehabilitation.
